About this painting:
This piece made its debut at Art Toronto a few years back and I remember feeling so proud when I overheard a collector say: “This is very new for Casey…he’s using PERSPECTIVE!” Which was the whole point.
My earlier work was purposely in a flat plane, sort of mimicking Egyptian hieroglyphics and the paintings at Lascaux. But people thought I couldn’t actually do perspective.
This was also my first attempt at mountains and would later lead me to the Rabbit in the Hat animation I did with John Tielli, creating a music video for his band The Metal Kites.

Arks are about a great flood and the ambiguity around the end of the world. Essentially, all my Ark paintings are about preservation.
